Moscow : Two people were killed in a fire that swept through a psychiatric hospital in the Kirov Region in the north-eastern part of European Russia, the regional emergencies center said on Wednesday.
“A 73-year-old woman injured in the fire died at the Zuyevsky District hospital yesterday evening. Another woman aged 50 died of burns on Tuesday morning while on her way to hospital,” the emergencies center said.
The fire engulfed the Volchye-Troitsk psychiatric hospital in the Zuyevsky District at 00:30 a.m. Moscow time (9:30 p.m. GMT) on December 11. The fire was not fully extinguished until Wednesday morning. More than 100 people were safely evacuated from the building. Three people are sill in hospital, the emergencies center said.
According to preliminary reports, arson and smoking in unauthorized zones are being considered as possible causes of the blaze.
