The elections are to check how the narrow advantage of the opposition in the Dec 2 referendum would work to its advantage and for the government to study the mobilization capacity of the supportive masses that abstained.

Among the Hugo Chavez followers, action includes retaking the formation of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) whose base organizations renewed their work meetings last weekend.

Agricultural and Lands Minister Elias Jaua, called attention to the fact that progressive forces confronted the referendum without an electoral strategy and put off the formation of the PSUV due to the campaign for the referendum.

Among immediate actions the parliamentary commission of Participacion Ciudadana called a meeting of Chavez supporters on Dec 11 to analyze how to recover his constitutional reform proposal rejected in the referendum and the possibility of approval through laws.

Hector Rodriguez, member of the presidential student commission indicated that the purpose is to boost political activity in young people and open a process of dialogues in the communities promoting the construction of socialism.
