Bhubaneswar : A hardcore Maoist, wanted in at least 62 cases of murder, was arrested Sunday by the police in Orissa.
James alias Paban Lohra, 24, was arrested from a rented house at Sambalpur, around 300 km from here, a senior district police official told IANS.
On the basis of information given by Lohra, the police raided a place in Jarang forest and seized huge quantities of live cartridges and explosives.
“We have seized about 2,500 live cartridges, the highest single haul in the state, three land mines, Maoist literature, maps, and some other equipments like detonators, fuse wire etc,” officer-in-charge of the Jujomura police station Pranadhan Mohapatra said.
“Lohra admitted he was working as a local commander of a Maoist group and was involved in a series of crime both in Orissa and the neighbouring Jharkhand state,” Mohapatra said.
Lohra is a native of Jharkhand and reportedly joined the Maoists in 2003.Maoists or the left wing extremists groups are mostly active in the border areas of Orissa, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Chhatisgarh.
