Eight dead in Panama accident

Panama City : At least eight people have been killed and seven injured in a collision between a garbage truck and a microbus transporting members of a softball team, the Spanish news agency EFE said.

The accident occurred on the weekend on the highway leading to the Centennial Bridge, which crosses the Panama Canal, according to the Panamanian daily La Prensa.

The trash truck veered out of its lane and crashed into the microbus carrying the softball team members to the Rod Carew National Baseball Stadium.

The bus, which is the property of the Social Security Fund, was carrying the players from the city of Aguadulce in central Panama.

The garbage truck driver was among the dead.
