Speaking to Mehr News Agency (MNA), Mottaki said that the U.S. must prove its positive intensions, taking vital steps towards changing the attitude towards dealing with Iran.

He indicated that since the CIA report about Iran’s nuclear program was announced, which suggested that Iran stopped intentions to build nuclear bombs in 2003, the U.S. began speaking of direct talks with Iran to relieve tension.

The U.S. until now did not apply the new policy towards Iran, opting to toughen international sanctions, said the Iranian official.

A news daily quoted Saturday U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as saying that she was ready to have a direct meeting with Mottaki, if Tehran let go of its nuclear ambitions.
