Tehran : Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday the Middle East region has started to witness a new stage of relations and developments.
The Iranian leader deemed his participation in the 28th Gulf Cooperation Council Summit an indicator of the start of the new stage of regional relations and developments, the Iranian Student’s News Agency (ISNA) reported.
“The summit gathered neighborly and friendly countries which share extensive common interests,” ISNA quoted Ahmadinejad as saying in a press conference here.
“It is natural for countries with common interests to stand by each other,” he noted.
Ahmadinejad voiced hope that the countries of region would maximize their cooperation and tap the potentials of their relations with a view to serving the common interests of the people in the region.
Asked about the reported call of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani for cancellation of Algiers Accord delineating Iranian-Iraqi borderlines, the Iranian president said his country would declare its position on the affair soon.
Meanwhile, he renewed his desire to resume ties with Egypt as early as possible if the latter had a similar desire.
Advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader for National Security Affairs Ali Larijani arrived in Cairo Tuesday for an official visit to Egypt as part of the underway efforts of the two sides to restore bilateral ties.
