Rio De Janeiro : The United Nations (UN) is considering inviting Brazil’s legendry footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele, to be the organisation’s special sports adviser.
According to media reports, Pele could well be on a list drawn up by UN advisors to replace the incumbent – former Swiss president Adolg Ogi, who has handed in his resignation.
UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon has said that Pele’s stature would match the world body’s goal of seeking a bigger international presence in sport.
Ban is also taking into account that Pele has been Brazil’s minister of sport and his fame means he can access world political leaders.
