Ramallah : A Palestinian presidential guard was killed early Friday morning when Israeli special forces fired at him in the West Bank town of Betonia, west of Ramallah.
According to eyewitnesses, Israeli special forces disguised in Arab attire stormed Betonia and besieged the house of Mutasim Al-Mahdi, 24, and opened fire at him, killing him at once.
The victim was working as a presidential guard and accompanied head of the Palestinian negotiating team Ahmad Qurei, the sources added.
Radio Israel quoted military sources as saying that the forces opened fire at Al-Mahdi, who was allegedly armed, as he was trying to escape.
However, witnesses denied the victim attempted to escape, noting that the nature of his job required him to carry. He was not on the wanted list.
At least six Palestinians were killed and many others were injured in three separate raids executed by Israeli jet planes in Gaza Strip Friday and Thursday.
