DUBAI, Dec 29 (Bernama) — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) tops Arab countries in women Parliamentary representation, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
In its human resources 2007-2008 report, the UNDP also said that the UAE is ahead of the US, UK, France, Canada, Greece, Ireland, Japan and Poland regarding women representation in Parliament, WAM said.
Women in the UAE’s Federal National Council (FNC) represent 22.5 per cent of the total number of members of parliament.
The report, which was released early this month, said that women are better represented in the parliaments of Seychelles’ Islands, Singapore, Cost Rica, Cuba, Argentine, Mexico, Belarus, Lithuania, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland and other countries in Europe compared to the UAE, WAM reported.
