Female suicide bomber wounds six people northeast of Baghdad

Baghdad : A female suicide bomber struck a police checkpoint in Baquba, the capital city of Diyala province, on Monday, wounding six people, a provincial police source said.

The woman wearing an explosive vest blew herself up at the checkpoint in the al-Mustafa neighborhood in central Baquba, 65 km northeast of Baghdad, wounding a policeman and five civilians, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Separately, the death toll from an earlier suicide truck bomb attack in the town of Tarmiyah rose to 12, a police source said.

Eight members of anti-al-Qaida Awakening Council group and four school children were killed in the attack targeting a checkpoint in Tarmiyah, 30 km north of Baghdad, the source added.

Earlier, the police put the toll at seven people killed and six others injured.
