Cairo : Egyptian People’s Assembly (parliament) Speaker Fatehi Sorrour said Sunday Israel was the one responsible for the crisis of Palestinian pilgrims who were left stranded at the borders between Egypt and Gaza Strip.
“Egypt did not prevent the Palestinian pilgrims from returning to their homeland, Israel is the one that did so,” Sorrour told Egyptian MPs who raised the issue during a parliament session.
“In so doing Israel is violating the basic human rights of the Palestinians and committing a new crime against the Palestinians,” the chief parliamentarian said.
“To prevent Muslim pilgrims from returning to their homes is a most heinous crime being committed by Israel.
“Israel needs to recognize the importance of respect for human rights. Egypt is trying to convince Israel of ensuring the safety of the Palestinian pilgrims.
“Regrettably, Israel insists that the pilgrims should return through an Israeli crossing point, instead of Rafah, in order to arrest them,” Sorrour revealed.
