New Delhi : Russia has asked India to search for and punish those behind the murder of a Russian woman tourist on a train Thursday.
It has asked the Indian external affairs ministry to investigate the murder of Nadezhda Klimova, 47, who was killed during a robbery attempt on a train travelling from Varanasi to Mumbai. She was with her boyfriend, Sergei, and another Russian when robbers attacked the train at night and asked the passengers to hand over all their valuables and cash.
When they resisted, the robbers opened fire, killing Klimova, injuring Sergei and another Russian, Alina, who was travelling with them.
The Russian news agency, Ria Novosti, quoted an official at the Russian embassy as saying that it has taken up the matter with Indian authorities.
“The Russian embassy has sent the Indian foreign ministry an official note demanding that prompt measures be taken to search for and punish those guilty of the crime,” said press secretary Andrei Lyashkevich.
