He said that by now the LTTE has been driven out from all its strategic bases and camps in the Eastern Province.

It is also reported that with the limited availability of logistic support to the terror group the fall of Thoppigala is imminent. Troops making further advances in Thoppigala area have recovered a large fleet of vehicles and arms abandoned by the LTTE.

Commenting to a local media the Governor had told that with the LTTE being driven out of the Eastern Province resettlement of civilians in the areas liberated from the LTTE was carried out satisfactorily.

"It is encouraging to see the support from the civilians in the Eastern province in stabilising the civil administration in the region. They are providing vital information to find the lethal items hidden by the LTTE.

"The armed forces have seized a large amount of claymore-mines and various other deadly items from various places in the East. It would be difficult for the LTTE to maintain its strength in the future with no place for the organisation to hide in a big way and operate," Admiral Wijewickrema said.

The Governor made a firm assurance to clear the entire region from the terrorist by the end of this month- July and to fast track the resettlement programmes immediate after the liberation.

He said the Government troops are vigilant and alert 24/7 even in the areas recaptured until they are entirely liberated as the terrorist outfit is capable of hit and run tactics.
