New Delhi : A Delhi Police inspector, deployed with the UN mission in Sudan, has been honoured for securing safe release of six detainees from the clutches of terror outfits in that country.
Mohan Singh was honoured by the office of the UN Police Commissioner for securing release of six villagers, including the Imam, from the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) based in Ummhittan village of south Kordofan state of Sudan, in May this year, Delhi Police said in a release Monday.
"In the capacity of patrol leader, Singh led a team of two officers including language assistants, and covered a distance of 350 km to negotiate with SPLM, Sudan People Liberation Army, political authorities and the tribal chief," it said.
"After a long and continuous negotiation of 16 hours, the UN team was able to secure the release of six detainees from the illegal custody of SPLM, despite efforts made by a delegation specially appointed by the governor of south Kordofan state of Sudan were futile," the release added.
