Guatemala : Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Guatemala Tuesday, a day before the IOC announces the host country for the 2014 Winter Olympics, a Kremlin spokesman said.
The IOC, at a session in the Latin American country, will choose between three shortlisted bids – the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, Austria's Salzburg and South Korea's Pyeongchang.
During their meeting in Guatemala City, Putin briefed Jacques Rogge on the advantages of the Sochi bid and its importance in the development of Russian sports and the Olympic movement in general, said Alexei Gromov.
Rogge in turn said all the submissions were very strong. He assured Putin that the committee's decision would be unbiased and wished the Russian bid success.
On Wednesday, each country will give an hour-long presentation to be followed by a 30-minute news conference.
