Bhopal, July 4: Bollywood star-turned politician Jaya Bachchan, who hails from Bhopal and is a Samajvadi Party member of Rajya Sabha, and 16 other residents here have been served notice by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation, (BMC), administration to deposit the amount spent on repeated demolitions of their illegal constructions in the Ansal Apartments.

The BMC administration on Tuesday generated a bill of Rs. 2,800 against Jaya Bachchan as demolition charges. The BMC team on June 16 demolished illegal structures constructed at her flats H 101 and 102 in Ansal Apartments where her mother Indira Bhaduri lives.

According to Bhopal Mayor Sunil Sood as many as 16 other residents of the Apartments would have to pay demolition charges amounting to nearly Rs. 60,000.

Exercising powers vested under the Municipal Corporation Act, 1956 to recover demolition charges, the BMC administration issued bills against the resident of Ansal Apartments. The BMC administration would recover demolition charges like property tax. About three dozens illegal structures were removed from Ansal Apartments on June 16. The BMC administration had demolished illegal structures at Ansal Apartments thrice in last ten months.

The BMC had razed illegal structures twice last year after some upper-floor flat owners complained to the Lok Ayukta (Vigilance Commissioner) that the constructions were encroaching on their parking area, he said. The ground-floor flat owners had moved courts against BMC action, but were not granted any relief. ([email protected])
