Dileepan's parents, who are physicians, wanted him to be the youngest person to have performed such an operation and enter his name in the record books, it has been alleged.

On May 6, his father K. Murugesan claimed before a gathering of Indian Medical Association (IMA) members in Manapparai near Tiruchirapally in Tamil Nadu that the teenager had performed a caesarean section.

The operation was conducted on a 20-year-old woman in the maternity clinic run by Murugesan and his wife M. Gandhimathi.

Following a probe ordered by the district collector, the doctor couple was arrested and remanded in judicial custody till July 9 on the charge of endangering peoples' lives. Authorities are considering closing down the maternity clinic.

Dileepan was hiding all this time and police were looking for him. His lawyers sought anticipatory bail from the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on June 29.

The court refused to admit the plea and told the police to produce Dileepan before the Juvenile Justice Board as soon as he was arrested.

Accompanied by his lawyers, Dileepan arrived at the Juvenile Justice Board and gave himself up.

The juvenile court asked him to make himself available for the investigation against his parents.
