Suicide bomb attack in NW Pakistan kills 11

Islamabad : Eleven people were killed when a suicide car bomber smashed a vehicle packed with explosives into an army convoy in northwestern Pakistan near the Afghan border, local media reported Wednesday.

Army spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad said the bomb attack occurred in north Waziristan, where a number of militant groups who fought with the Taliban are based. Five servicemen and four civilians were killed outright, with two more dying later in hospital.

A suicide bomber launched the attack at the army convoy, which was travelling from Mir Ali in North Waziristan to Bannu, a major city near the tribal region.

The injured have been shifted to a military hospital in Bannu.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
