Reacting to the CBI probe of Singur girl Tapasi Malik's rape and murder, Basu said, "When I was the chief minister I saw that the CBI and RAW were never in favour of us."

"Hardly two to three percent of the total cases the CBI had taken up were solved," he said taking a dig at the investigating agency.

Asked about the arrest of Suhrid Dutta, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) zonal secretary of Singur as a suspect in Tapasi's murder, Basu said he doesn't want to comment on that case since the matter is now in the court.

The charred body of Tapasi Malik, an 18-year-girl from Singur who was in the forefront of anti-land acquisition movement, was found inside the fenced-off area of Tata Motors small car factory site in December.

Pointing out the plight of homeless people in Nandigram who have taken shelter in several camps, Basu said: "Is it not shameful that over 2,000 CPI-M supporters are homeless in the trouble-torn region when it is our government that runs the state."
