Police said separatist militants tossed a grenade in a busy market in Hajin town of Bandipore district, 45 km from here.

“24 persons were wounded in the explosion. Attending doctors referred 15 seriously injured persons to capital Srinagar for specialised treatment,” said a senior police officer here.

The explosion triggered panic, confusion and tension in the otherwise peaceful town.

Troops of the counterinsurgency Rashtriya Rifles and police carried out searches around the blast site. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion.
