Jerusalem : An Israeli military court on Thursday sentenced Ashraf Hanaisha, a Palestinian youth who killed an Italian tourist in August 2006 near the old city of Jerusalem to a life term, said a statement released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
According to the statement, Hanaisha stabbed one Italian tourist in his back and ran away from the scene when the group of tourists were walking near the Herod's Gate of the old city of Jerusalem on Aug. 10, 2006.
The injured tourist, Angelo Frammartino, died of his wounds.
Under the pressure of his family, Hanaisha turned himself into the hands of the Israeli security forces, and admitted to having committed the murder during police investigation, said the statement.
Towards the beginning of his trial, Hanaisha pleaded guilty and was convicted.
