The students of a Cameroon university, including two girls, expressed their plight to the team of home department representatives who visited Presidency Jail here Thursday. They requested that their term of imprisonment be reconsidered.

According to local reports, the students from the west African country were arrested from Bongaon border in North 24-Parganas, about 70 km from here, almost a year ago.

They had inadvertently stepped on the other side of the fence just out of curiosity. The students came to Kolkata after visiting Delhi, Mumbai and Nepal and had gone to Bongaon to visit the border area.

After talking to the students, the home department representatives reportedly assured them that they would talk to the external affairs ministry regarding their release.

West Bengal Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) B. D. Sharma had earlier said that they had tried to secure the students' release, but in vain.
