Islamabad : At least 83 people were killed in overnight thunderstorm and floods in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP), officials said Saturday.
Lightning and thunderstorm Friday night struck the villages of Nashnamal Jabi and Banaya Kahur in Dir district, triggering flash floods in the area. More than 20 houses and a mosque were washed away in the floods.
"Rescuers have so far recovered 83 bodies from the river and debris of the houses, and more than a dozen people are still missing," NWFP Health Minister Inayatullah Khan said, adding that more than 50 people were injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, a mother and her two daughters died when the roof of a house collapsed following overnight rains in Peshawar. Three other women from the same family were wounded in the accident.
