New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday called on outgoing Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat at his residence here.
"It was a courtesy call by the prime minister and they spent about 15 minutes exchanging pleasantries. Besides, the prime minister is also a member of the Rajya Sabha of which Shekhawat has been chairman as vice president," an aide of Shekhawat told IANS.
Apart from the prime minister, Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj who had been Shekhawat's presidential election campaign manager and Digvijay Singh of the Janata Dal (United) also called on him.
Shekhawat was defeated by the ruling alliance's nominee Pratibha Patil in the presidential poll. Soon after the result, he tendered his resignation from the post Saturday, though his term ends next month.
As Shekhawat is keen to move out of his official residence as early as possible but wants to stay in the capital, the search has begun for an alternative accommodation for him.
"We have seen some places on the Aurangzeb Road, though nothing has been finalised so far," the aide said.
The vice presidential election on Aug 10 will decide his successor.
