Kathmandu : SilkAir, a subsidiary of Singapore's national carrier Singapore Airlines, will commence flights connecting Singapore with Kathmandu from October, Nepal's state-owned tourism board said.
The announcement comes just a day after SilkAir announced it would start thrice a week flights between Singapore and Coimbatore in southern India.
A press statement issued by Chin Yau Seng, chief executive of SilkAir, also mentioned the upcoming Kathmandu launch, saying both cities were aligned with SilkAir's network.
Since SilkAir is well-linked with Australia, Japan, US, New Zealand and many European cities through Singapore Airlines, Nepal is hoping it would bring upmarket clients from these destinations.
Everest Express Tours and Travels, the general sales agent for Singapore Airlines, will also perform the same duties for SilkAir.
The new routes will take SilkAir's networks to 29 destinations across 11 countries.
Currently, the airline operates a fleet of 14 Airbus A-320 family aircraft, with 11 more on order and options for a further nine.
