Brussels : The European Union (EU) has hailed the decision by the government of President Pervez Musharraf in Pakistan to respect ruling of the supreme court to reinstate Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry.
"Independence of the judiciary and the rule of law are key elements of Democracy," an EU statement released Wednesday said, according to INEPNEXT news service.
"The EU hopes Pakistan will continue to abide by these principles, on the path towards enhanced legitimacy of political institutions and democratic consolidation, in particular in view of the forthcoming elections," the statement added.
