Kathmandu : After 29 people were killed in western Nepal in landslides triggered by incessant rain, floods have now engulfed parts of the Terai plains in the south, killing four people and creating havoc in a region already reeling under violence.
Two people were swept away Wednesday by swollen rivers in Dang district, a Maoist stronghold during the 10-year communist insurgency. A 35-year-old woman was killed in Kohalpur in Banke district when her house collapsed due to torrential rain while a 29-year-old woman was killed in a landslide in Rauta village in Udaypur district.
Reports about people missing in the floods started pouring in with rescue operations affected as swirling water blocked roads and highways.
In Dang's Narayanpur, policemen prevented a bus from being swept away and rescued the passengers.
Kohalpur town in Banke district remained under water, media reports said Thursday.
Neighbour India is being held responsible for the disaster in the flood-hit districts.
