2 militants killed, 8 CRPF men injured in fidayeen attack in Kashmir

Srinagar : Security forces on Thursday gunned down two militants when they stormed a 42 Battalion Headquarter of Central Reserve Police at Zakura in the outskirts of summer capital early this afternoon.

Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that two militants while resorting to indiscriminate firing and throwing around grenades tried to enter trough the back gate.

However, alert CRPF personnel on guard gunned down one of the militant near the sentry post, while the other was killed after a brief encounter inside the camp.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Mr. S M Sahai, while giving details to the media near the encounter site said that the fidayeen lobbed Grenades and tried to sneak into the 42 Bn CRPF camp from back side which is housed in the Baba Atomic Research Centre.

He said that the alert troops repulsed the suicide attack and in the exchange of fire, two militants were gunned down.

IGP said that militants have been making repeated attempts to attack Police and Security forces but these attacks are being successfully repulsed by security Forces.

Meanwhile SP operations Srinagar said that the identity of the slain militants is being ascertained adding that two AK Rifles, Eight Magazines, four grenades and two pouches were also recovered from the site of encounter.

He said that in all eight CRPF Constables sustained injuries in the exchange of fire who are identified as Manoj Trivedi, Vinod Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Mohammed Salim, Altaf Hussain, Rajesh Sharma, Kalti Kumar, and Sudesh Trivedi of 42 Bn CRPF .
