Jasbir Singh, the Chairperson of the Commission, has written a letter to the Union Minority Affairs Minister A.R Antulay and showed his displeasure on not including these two districts of Rajasthan from the list of 90 minority identified districts all over the country. He mentioned in this letter that the minorities in Jaisalmer and Sriganganagar are socially and economically backward.

He pointed out that the criteria for inclusion of a district in the list of minority identified districts is 25 percent population of minority communities and their socio-economic backwardness. Since these two districts of Rajasthan are fulfilling all the required criterion then there is no reason for leaving out these districts from the list of minority districts situated all over the country.

He stated that the Union Ministry’s decision would deprive the two districts of the special package of Rs 50 crores each.
