Student, foreign militant among 3 killed, 2 injured in Kashmir

Srinagar :  A Special Police Officer and a foreign militant were killed while another police official and a woman injured in an overnight encounter which broke out between Police and militants, yesterday afternoon, at Lam-Mohalla Nadihal of North Kashmir District of Baramulla, police sources said.

However, unofficial sources has put the death toll to three saying that a teen aged tenth class student was also killed in the cross firing.

Sources quoting Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Viplav Kumar, police and troopers of 32 Rashtriya Rifles on specific information about the presence of militants laid a cordon late last afternoon.

They said that the militants were hiding in the house of Ali Mohammad at Lama-Mohalla Nadihal.

"The troopers zeroed on the target  and while they were about to enter into the house, militants fired upon them injuring two Special Police Officers identified as Waheed Ahmad and Shah Nawaz in the first fire-fight.

While SPO Waheed Ahmed duccumbed to the injuries, Shah Nawaz was rushed to SKIMS Srinagar with neck injuries, sources added.

The encounter, sources said, continued throughout the night during which Police eliminated one a foreign militant Abu-Talha when he was trying to escape by jumping out of the window.

The slain militant belonged to Lashker-e-Tioba outfit; sources said adding that woman identified as Dilshada also received minor injuries during the encounter.

The encounter was still going on when the last report came in.

Meanwhile, unofficial sources told News Agency of Kashmir that a teen aged tenth class student was also killed in the encounter.

Identifying the victim as Tariq Ahmad (16) according to sources was killed when he was hit by a stray bullet last night and succumbed while on way to hospital.

Sources said that the house in which the militants were hiding also damaged totally in the encounter.
