Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Nouriya Al-Subeih said in response to a parliamentary question that the decision was in conformity with the Private Universities Council to encourage education competence.

She revealed that a detailed study was being prepared by the council on labor force market needs and number of students expected to graduate from high schools during the coming years.

Al-Subeih noted that the permit to establish new colleges and private university branches would only be given to those adhering to stick with the council's requirements in terms of the needed majors required by the labor force market.

She said there had been 32 requests submitted to the council to establish new private colleges and university branches and that only 15 were approved for meeting the council's requirements.
