Karachi : An anonymous letter apparently by Islamist extremists has threatened that a prominent shopping area in this city would be blown up if it wasn't closed down by Sep 27.
The note also ordered cinema houses, cable operators and video parlours in Karachi's Rainbow Centre to stop purveying "vulgarity".
The terrified business community of the market and the residents were warned in the note distributed Sunday: "If the video business does not shut down, there will be a big explosion for the world to remember."
The note was written in crude Urdu and signed Fatah, Daily Times said.
"All of Karachi's cinema hall owners should wind up otherwise after Sep 27 any one of them could be blown up," the note said.
"Cable operators should only air Islamic channels and if any vulgar programmes are broadcast in any locality of Karachi, the cable operator's office will be bombed."
The note said that vulgarity and obscenity had become exceedingly common through media in Karachi.
