Dutt, who has been charged under the Arms Act but absolved of terror charges, was accompanied by his two sisters – Namrata and Congress MP Priya – when he arrived amid tight security and massive crowds at the Terrorist And Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court that has sentenced 12 people to death.

Tuesday is the day of sentencing for the last four of the 100 convicts. The only ones left are Dutt and his three friends Rusi Mullah, Kersi Adjania, Yusuf Nallwala.

Dutt, who has already served jail term for 16 months, could face five to 10 years in prison. He has been convicted for illegal possession of arms during the 1993 Mumbai blasts, in which 257 people were killed.

The actor has applied for leniency under the Probation of Offenders Act, under which a convict can apply for release on a bond of good conduct.

The TADA court had Nov 28 last year spared Dutt, the most high profile of the convicts, from the stringent TADA Act saying he was not part of the conspiracy that led to the blasts.

Although Dutt had confessed that the assault rifle was only for "self-defence", he was, however, pronounced guilty for a lesser offence of illegal possession of arms, including the AK-56.
