Islamabad : A Pakistani court Thursday handed down death sentences to two members of a separatist organization for carrying out a car bomb attack in the southern city of Karachi in 2005 which killed three people and injured more than a dozen, media reported.
Both belonged to the banned Baloch Liberation Army from the southwest province of Balochistan, which is fighting for autonomy and a greater share in the province's natural resources.
The organization stepped up a bombing campaign in recent months that is aimed mainly at local infrastructure including railway tracks, gas pipelines and security instalments.
Insurgents Thursday morning blew up a railway track linking the province with other parts of the country.
Hours earlier, two people on a motorbike hurled a hand grenade into a barber's shop, wounding eight. One official with the state-run Geological Survey of Pakistan later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
