Doctors Saturday removed the five-inch long surgical instruments from the abdomen of 25-year-old Binapani Khatua at a private hospital in Dhenkanal, some 90 km from the state capital.

Khatua, who is from Jenapur village in Cuttack district about 40 km from here, had been suffering from severe abdominal pain since the past four years.

She alleged that doctors at the sub-divisional government hospital at Athagarh in Cuttack district had left the forceps in her abdomen during an operation.

The state government has ordered Cuttack's chief district medical officer to probe the matter and submit a report at the earliest, Orissa Health and Family Welfare Minister Duryodhan Majhi told IANS.

If the doctors who operated on the woman four years ago are found guilty, the state government will initiate action against them as per law, said Majhi.
