Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh) : Himachal Pradesh's Forest Minister Ram Lal Thakur quit Tuesday after losing the Hamirpur Lok Sabha by-election to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by 80,059 votes.
Former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal won the Hamirpur seat for the third time by polling 382,128 votes against the Congress' Thakur who got 302,069 votes.
Polling took place Saturday in Hamirpur after Suresh Chandel of BJP was thrown out of parliament with 10 others for allegedly taking money to raise questions in the house.
The Hamirpur seat is spread over Hamirpur, Una and Bilaspur districts, in the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh.
