New York : A new caucus has been formed to bring New Jersey's Indian American community closer to the local political process and address the growing needs of the people.
Called the Indo-American Caucus of the Edison Democratic Organisation, the caucus would try to address Indian American issues, according to Satish Poondi, its founder and co-chair.
The caucus, which was launched last week, would give the community a voice in local politics and help them understand how public policies are created and function, Edison Sentinel reported.
"I believe that the caucus is going to function as a way of bridging any gaps that are there between the Indian American community and the greater Edison community," Poondi said.
"The caucus would act as a bonding agent between the Indian community and the larger Edison political community and allow the Indian American community to be a part of the larger process as opposed to being an outside agent working with the political establishment," he said.
Former Edison Township Council president and caucus co-founder, Parag Patel, Democrat state Senator Barbara Buono and Democrat Assemblyman Peter Barnes were also present during the launch.
