Kolkata :  The West Bengal zone of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind will undertake relief and rehabilitation work in Nandigram. It will send a delegation comprising Jamaat workers as well as some other volunteers, including Non-Muslims who have offered to support the Jamaat move to provide succour to the victims of Nandigram incident, for relief and rehabilitation work.

The delegation will put up camps at two places in the affected areas. It will offer cash to a number of families affected in March this year, which left more than a dozen dead and several injured. "Jamaat will distribute around Rs 2.5 lakh among 900 people, which includes the injured, students and relatives of the dead," said a Jamaat official.

Unlike Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, made its presence felt in Nandigram as an opponent to the land acquisition drive, Jamaat has said that it is in favour of industrialisation. "But industries should be established keeping in mind the well-being of the poor. The poor should be given a stake in the project, if their land is acquired for industry," Jamaat said.
