London : In a major embarrassment, the Jamaican police Tuesday reversed their earlier prognosis that Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer was murdered and have instead confirmed that he died of natural causes.

Woolmer died March 18 during the cricket World Cup in his room in Kingston after Pakistan were humiliated by Ireland, which ultimately led to their ouster from the World Cup.

A report by an Indian origin pathologist Ere Seshaiah employed with the Jamaican police had earlier claimed that he had been strangulated.

The report sparked off conspiracy theories that even led to interviewing and fingerprinting of the entire Pakistan cricket team before they returned left the West Indies.

Jamaican police commissioner Lucius Thomas told a news conference that a three-member expert body came to the conclusion that 58-year-old Woolmer died of natural causes.

Meanwhile, speaking in Cape Town, Woolmer's widow Gill, said: "My sons and I are relieved to be officially informed that Bob died of natural causes and that no foul play is suspected in his death."

Pakistan's former captain Imran Khan said the country's cricket board should sue the Jamaican police for the humiliation that the Pakistan team had to face.

Thomas claimed that his men had carried out a thorough professional investigation where they did not take any chance. Investigators had not found "any evidence at all of impropriety" involving players during the World Cup, he said.

"Every effort has been made by the Jamaica Constabulary Force to seek the truth surrounding the circumstances of Bob Woolmer's death and bring the facts to his widow and family," he said.

Scotland Yard officers were a part of investigation and were joined later by the Pakistan police.
