Gaza City : Hamas said Thursday it had overpowered the main headquarters of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Preventive Security in Gaza City's Tel Al Hawa neighbourhood.
Abu Obaida, a spokesman for Hamas' armed wing Al Qassam Brigades said that after a day-long battle during which they shelled the compound with mortars and rocket-propelled grenades, Hamas militants had entered into the headquarters.
Fatah denied the claim, insisting it managed to repel the attack and even arrest some 15 Hamas gunmen.
Hamas' satellite channel, Al Aqsa Television, however promised to broadcast images proving the headquarters was under Hamas control.
The compound is one of four major Fatah-controlled headquarters in Gaza City, known as the 'Security Square'.
