Patna : Bihar's Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Friday was in the eye of a storm for allegedly pushing an elderly woman in Bhagalpur district when she went up to him to ask for a job, causing her to fracture her arms. Singh has denied the allegation.

Singh reportedly pushed Phoola Devi, whose husband had died three years ago, during a function in Bhagalpur district, about 200 km from here, Thursday.

Phoola Devi's arms were allegedly fractured due to the push Singh gave her when she approached him for a job on compassionate grounds.

However, Singh has denied the allegation.

"It is a media-created story. Nothing like this has happened," Singh told IANS Friday night.

Following the hue and cry over the incident after it was reported on TV channels, the state government has initiated a move to give the woman a job.

"Phoola Devi's request for a job is being processed," an official in Bhagalpur said.

Her husband, a driver at the university, had died three years ago while working as a driver with the agriculture department.

It is not the first time that Singh's rough behaviour has made news.

Soon after the formation of the new government led by Nitish Kumar in November 2005, he reportedly abused and threatened a judicial magistrate at the gate of the state assembly.

Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal, Congress, Samata Party and Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist have demanded action against Singh and demanded his resignation on moral grounds.
