Chandigarh : Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Friday approved in principle a British firm's offer to set up a Rs.30 billion thermal energy and power plant by using waste products.
A government spokesman said that Waste2Energy Holdings Ltd had offered to set up a plant to convert 1,500 tonnes of daily waste into thermal energy that would be used to generate power and also to purify water for manufacturing bottled drinking water.
A presentation was made by company officials led by its group chairman and managing director David Hamilton-Dick to Badal and other ministers and officers.
As per the proposal, the company will set up an integrated waste management plant in a centrally located place in the state to process 1,500 tonnes of waste per day. It has sought 100 acres of land for the plant.
A final agreement for this proposal will be signed after the company submits a detailed report.
