A.R. Antulay opens South Indian Muslim convention for social justice

Kochi : Al-Ameen Education Trust and Forum for Faith and Fraternity in association with Muslim Education Society, Kerala Muslim Educational Association, Muslim Service Society, Centre for Information and Guidance India and Muslim Employees Cultural Association will organise South Indian Muslim Convention for Social Justice at Al-Ameen Silver Jubilee Hall here Saturday and Sunday.

The convention will focus on Justice Sachar Committee Report and its ramifications. National and state level leaders from various political organisations, social activists, well-known journalists and community leaders are expected to participate in the convention. Union Minister for Minority Affairs A.R. Antulay will inaugurate the two-day convention while Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan will deliver the keynote address in the inaugural session chaired by founder Al-Ameen Movement Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed Khan.

State Minister for Education M.A. Baby and former Chief Minister of Karnataka Veerappa Moily will address the inaugural session as Guests of Honour while Justice Rajender Sachar Committee's Member Secretary Abu Saleh Seriff will speak on Sachar Report and Its Implications.

Other scholars and leaders scheduled to address the convention include Chancellor Jamia Hamdard Sayyid Hamid, President All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat and former Member of Parliament Syed Shahabuddin, educationist and member Aligarh Muslim University Court P.A. Inamdar, former Minister of Andhra Pradesh Bashiruddin Babukhan, former Chief Minister of Kerala Oomman Chandy, and former State Ministers for Education E.T. Muhammed Basheer and Nalakath Soopy.

Various sessions of the convention will focus on educational empowerment, socio-cultural empowerment, economic empowerment, reservation: a tool for social justice, community development: Kerala model, and the role of NGOs in development of the community.

A group discussion on action plan for overall progress and development of Muslims will be one of the major highlights of the convention.
