Paramilitary trooper commits suicide in Kashmir

Srinagar : A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper allegedly ended his life at a recruit training centre in Humhama on the outskirts of Srinagar, police said Sunday.

Head Constable G.D. Bardaie shot himself late Saturday by his service rifle and was rushed to hospital where he succumbed, a police spokesman said.

Over 300 security personnel have committed suicide in violence torn Kashmir during the past several years, forcing authorities to take steps to reduce their stress level. These include posting of psychiatrists and trained counsellors in the army and paramilitary camps in the state.
