Tehran : Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Wednesday that his country would positively study Iraq's request for holding the second round of talks with the United States, the official IRNA news agency reported.
"Iraqi officials have made the request. We have stressed we will examine their request with a positive view after the U.S. responds to the request," said Mottaki after seeing off Iraqi President Jalal Talabani at Tehran Mehrabad International Airport.
The first round of Iran-U.S. talks on Iraq was held on May 28in Baghdad at the ambassadorial level. Iran's Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Kazemi-Qomi represented Iran and Ryan Crocker acted as the U.S. envoy.
Based on an agreement reached at the first round of talks, the Iraqi officials would invite Tehran and Washington to hold the second round of talks.
In a meeting with Mottaki on Wednesday before departure from Tehran, Talabani thanked Iran for its acceptance of Iraq's bid for an Iran-U.S. dialogue, saying it would help restore security in the war-torn country, the IRNA reported.
The Iraqi president said Iran's willingness to take part indifferent development projects in Iraq is a sign of its goodwill to help Iraqi reconstruction.
Talabani arrived in Tehran Tuesday afternoon and held talks with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Mottaki during his stay in Tehran.
