Football's world governing body said Wednesday Valcke will assume the responsibilities of a chief executive, in charge of all business and football matters at the organization.

He succeeds Urs Linsi who has left after five years in the job.

Valcke was dismissed from his previous role after a legal dispute with MasterCard over sponsorship for the 2010 and 2014 World Cup.

He was reinstated when cleared by a US appeal court and FIFA claimed he had been "completely vindicated."
