London: Reading spoiled the return of England striker Michael Owen after 10 months out with an injury as they beat Newcastle 1-0 in the English Premier League to improve their hopes of a place in European competition next season. Dave Kitson's goal in 51 minutes was enough to give Reading the victory Monday and lift them up to seventh, in line for an UEFA Cup spot. Owen, making his first appearance for Newcastle since he injured his ankle playing for England at the World Cup, had a goal ruled out for offside early on. But that was as good as it got for Newcastle. Reading, who dominated the second half, deserved the victory.
