The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has reported that 1,398 acres of land is under encroachment. In addition, 67.68 acres of land under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was encroached upon.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) too has reported that 140,000 sq meters of land is under encroachment of slum clusters, Maken informed the parliament.

The minister said that at least 98 parks under the DDA have been encroached upon. Similarly, people have illegally occupied scores of MCD parks, especially for “religious” purposes.

He added that the government is pressing the concerned authorities to remove the intrusion.

“The government has been impressing upon landowning agencies to keep their lands free from encroachment. Demolition programmes are being taken up by the concerned local bodies from time to time to get the land cleared from encroachment,” the minister said.
