Baghdad : At least 15 people died in latest Iraq violence including eight people, one a five-month-old baby, killed by two bombs targeting a police officer and the chairman of the city council in the northern city of Kirkuk, local media reports said Friday.
They quoted a police spokesman as saying six people were killed in a car bomb that exploded outside the house of the police officer. Several explosive devices were also detonated outside the offices of the city council chairman, killing two people and injuring 33.
Gunmen in northern Iraq killed six Iraqi police officers in another attack, police said. The bodies of the six were found at Bayji, 175 km northwest of Baghdad. The police were apparently first bound up by the attackers and then shot dead.
Meanwhile the US Army said one of its soldiers was killed while on patrol south of Baghdad Friday. Two US soldiers were wounded in the attack.
