New Delhi : Five minor boys were allegedly sodomized in a children’s home in the national capital, police said Friday.
The incident occurred Tuesday when Bala, a worker with the Sahib Devi Shiksha Kalyan Samiti children’s shelter in west Delhi’s Subhash Nagar area, allegedly sexually molested five minors there, all of them below 10 years.
Bala, 50, who resides in the same area, is absconding, police said.
The matter came to light when one of the victims, Rahul, narrated the incident to his father Vinod Thukral who later complained to police.
Thukral along with relatives of the four other victims also alleged that the shelter’s administration had asked them to suppress the issue. They had assured that the accused would be expelled from there.
“We immediately registered a case and all the boys were taken to the nearby Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for medical examination. The doctors have confirmed the claims of rape,” a senior police official said.
“We have launched a manhunt to trace the culprit and investigations are underway,” he added.
The shelter was established in 1998 and the children of disputing or divorced couples are kept there. Right now it is home to at least 28 such children.
In a similar incident March 27, two girls aged below six were allegedly gang-raped, and a sexual attempt was made on a third child in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area.
